Introduction to ZigZag Global
In our recent Outposter podcast, I had the opportunity to interview Vince Dicskon, the founder and director of ZigZag Global. Vince and I connected a few years ago through Ben Pullen, and recently, I visited ZigZag’s offices in Manila. Our conversation explored the growth and operations of ZigZag Global, a company that has leveraged the Philippines’ vast talent pool to support businesses globally.
The Origins and Growth of ZigZag Global
ZigZag Global started as an offshoot of Vince’s advertising agency in Australia. Initially, the company provided support to friends and associates who wanted to access resources in the Philippines. Over time, Vince partnered with Chris Adebahr and ZigZag expanded significantly and now employs around 800 people, primarily based in their state-of-the-art office in Ortigas, Manila. The office is designed to Western standards, with eco-friendly features and a comfortable environment aimed at maximising employee productivity.
The Talent Pool in the Philippines
Vince highlighted the Philippines’ strong educational system, which aligns closely with U.S. standards, and the resulting pool of highly skilled workers. The country has become a hub for offshoring, particularly in areas like software engineering and customer support. Vince noted that the high level of English proficiency and the cultural alignment with Western countries make the Philippines an ideal location for outsourcing.
Practical Advice for Offshoring
During the podcast, Vince offered practical advice for businesses considering offshoring to the Philippines. He recommended starting with small teams and gradually expanding as trust and processes are established. He also emphasised the importance of maintaining close relationships with offshore teams to ensure successful operations.
Conclusion
The podcast provided valuable insights into the benefits of offshoring to the Philippines and the successful model that ZigZag Global has built. My visit to their Manila office confirmed the strength and capabilities of the Filipino workforce, making it a compelling option for businesses in Australi and beyond.
